Interesting start for a Danish legend. - 89%

In the period from 1992 to 1993, we hear the Danish legend starting to mold itself into the US/Scandinavian combination that would make them beloved in the underground. Starting off as raw, thrashy death metal with a slight Suffocation influence, they morphed into a doomier atmospheric sound with a firmer grasp of technical capability and less haphazard structures.

The first half is like a feeding frenzy of wild riffs battering against one another for control with new riffs charging in through openings made before being submerged beneath the mayhem, all the while drums race alongside and hammer away with riot police-style pugilism.

The second half is particularly interesting due to the inclusion of Nocturnus-style keyboards alongside subterranean register, muffled crunch riffing with highly active drumming bouncing off tension in a nearly jazz-busy way. Songs here are built around riff pairs that with each successive iteration peel away the layers of a grand climax, usually punctuated by eerie keyboards before it trundles off into obscurity with its propositions satisfied.

Although Iniquity are still forming their identity here, both pre-album releases present an interesting picture of what could have been. Can you imagine a future in which they became a more technical version of feral death/thrash like Revenant and Insanity or an atmospheric combination of Baphomet, Nocturnus, and first album Sentenced?

For better or for worse, all we're left with is this interesting combination of two contrasting styles united by promising up and coming musicians.
