Infernoise - The Chainsaw's Law

An example of chirality - 5%

zeingard, February 17th, 2008

The current trend amongst the more mainstream metal and metalcore bands is paying homage to their influences; they all unanimously mention Metallica, Machine Head, Pantera, Iron Maiden as though these will somehow alleviate their glaringly obvious flaws. Of course bands like Trivium and Bullet for my Valentine have taken this to the next level by unceremoniously ripping their favourite band(s) off, and Infernoise continue this newly found tradition by trying to sound like 'Vulgar Display of Power'-era Pantera.

'The Chainsaw's Law' isn't exactly like 'Vulgar Display of Power' but it might as well be; thick and chugging riffs, barked vocals that are worse than Phil Anselmo, bass guitar following root notes and double-bass driven drums. Of course the modern sensibilities can be piled on top such as breakdowns and an innumerable amount of fucking irritating pinch harmonics. "Ritual" has like a billion of them, at least. Well I lost count but there are an awful lot of them tacked onto the end of their pathetically slowed down riffs or completely dominating their unimaginative breakdowns. Some of the songs pack a bit of speed like "All My Rage" but they still manage to use nothing but groove metal chug riffs and have this primitive desire to slow the tempo for at least half the song and plod through some tough-guy lyrics about being awesome or bashing people or whatever they're on about.

That's all to be said really, every song has that same chugging riff used for anywhere from a quarter to the entirety of the song length, the solos are pretty bad and any of the riffs that aren't completely chugged are most likely stolen from Pantera; I remember hearing "Clash with Reality" and "Primal Concrete Sledge" somewhere in there. The vocalist does manage to sound somewhat like Anselmo but his guttural attempts at vocals are rather pitiful and sound very strained, no doubt from the endless cocks he sucked to get a record deal for this groove metal abortion of a band.

There are few redeeming features for this release, if you're desperate to hear the Spanish equivalent to the lowest point in Pantera's career then this album will make you want to jumpdafuckup like you've never jumpdafuckup before. Infernoise should just go back to being a Pantera cover band, at least that way when they suck they can just blame Pantera for it!
