After the release of the very good and traditional new album by Post-Mortem Great Dane Records return with something different again. I am not an expert when it comes to grindcore, slam etc. so apologies if anything I write might not be accurate. Inferia are a pretty long running band from Finland and their newest output “Grind Cumpaign” is already full length number seven. 22 cuts and a running time of 32 minutes should give a first idea of what to expect. Also song titles like “Mick Shagger” (one of the more subtle ones) make clear that this album should not be taken overly serious. In case you got a problem with that kind of stuff and if you are easily offended better stay away from it.
Starting with one of the longest tracks (2:27 minutes) we are introduced to a short intro played by a trumpet before hell breaks loose and we get our brain hammered for the first time. Very deep and gnarly vocal growls, churning and hectic guitars and deep, raging drums are the main ingredients for the party. Inferia are good at offering a combination of short, violent music with the added brutal riffing of death metal that allows for a bit more depth and variety at times. They have a nice groove going on which make especially the few 2+ minutes songs quite enjoyable.
The deep growls are surgical in their assault; they’re focused, tight and sound supremely confident. Sounding absurdly relevant and energised, Inferia take no prisoners here. While there are a few tempo changes their music mainly keeps being devastating and murderously capable. The band have a strong modern and professional production that makes their short bursts of carnage sound immense.
You will find tank-like drums and militant riff-work at abundance. The punkiness of grindcore and old school goregrind seems to be mostly absent other than some of the thrashy d-beat sections, but like I said I am not an expert. After the 32 minutes you might feel exhauster as Inferia have fired out at a non-stop and unforgiving pace. The goal is to wreck the mind and on that front they have more than delivered. While “Grind Cumpaign” might not be something to listen to each day it is surprisingly entertaining and a good way to annoy your family.
