Infantiphagia - Infantiphagia

Experimental, Brutal Death Metal - 89%

Bones98, August 12th, 2008

The vocals are far from being weak. What you get with Infantiphagia are Matti Way's guttural vocals along with Dain Gosbee's high pitched screams and pig squeel growls. This mixture adds a very dark atmosphere, especially in one of their songs titled Hollow Point Eulogy. Some of the best work done by Matti Way can be heard on the song titled Laying Buried where the band tease the listener into thinking that a slow, chunky slam is about to start but little does the listener know that there's a surprise in which the band play go off into a slow and dark chorus where Matti Way's vocals give some kind of ambient yet evil presence to the music. It's quite hard to explain, just listen for yourself and you'll know what I mean.

The guitars and bass absolutely brutal. Dain and Dan have definitely put in a lot of time into composing Infantiphagia's songs. There's nothing I have found boring or cheesy in this EP, everything seems to flow real well. There's a balanced mix of slams, doom, technicality, and even bits of Spanish-styled acoustic guitars.

The drums sounds great, especially for a demo/promo. The drums are far from being slow and boring. There are times where the drummer would perform certain fills where I wouldn't have expect it, and that's not a bad thing at all because it helps add diversity into their style rather playing the same patterns with the same fills and rolls. Only complaint I have about the drums is the kick drums, they're not too clicky yet not too beefy, but I would've liked the drums alot more if they had more low-end.

Overall this release sounds great and has alot of replay value because of its complexity and catchiness. I've spent the whole week listening to this cd after I received it in the mail along with my Infantiphagia t-shirt. I recommend this band for fans of Severe Torture, Devourment, Disgorge, Vital Remains (minus the solos), Cinerary, Digested Flesh, and Cryptopsy.
