ECSTATIC LETHARGY

Independent

British old-school doomsters in the vein of early Paradise Lost and Chorus of Ruin. Spare riffs meandering mostly in minor thirds and seconds, and fourths, create a hypnotic effect not unlike Gregorian Chant through a quad box. What Indesinence have in their favour is capturing great tones, and kudos to John Wright, producer. From the snarling course vocals to the ponderous toms, the timbres are full and satisfyingly three-dimensional, creating a cohesive and convincing atmosphere; however, the two songs presented do struggle to convey a sense of drama, the stumbling block for 97% of Doom Metal bands.

The thing about dirge metal is it needs greater momentum built into it than the most rapid-fire death metal or searing thrash. SLOWER momentum, but greater. If you expect a listener to follow an oozing ten minute plus musical journey, you’d better have the great floods up to your chin and the Ark full-up with sycophantic bastards throwing straw, emptying the slops bucket, and braying 'The Water is Wide.' That's DOOM. That said, it’s early days for this band. The quality of tone is extremely promising, you can float on the guitar sounds like the dead sea, and there are some truly arresting interludes. Indesinence only need to discover a harmonic crucible and... the great floods up to your chin.
