Impalers - The Impalers

Motörcharged Metal Punk - 95%

wicked-ways, May 15th, 2011

The Impalers are a ripping new band from Austin, TX, with Mike Sharp of Hatred Surge on drums and Chris Ulsh, the main man behind Mammoth Grinder, supplying everything else. With members like that, you know this is gonna be good. Basically, if MG took more influence from Swedish d-beat instead of the Swedish death metal they've been aping on their last few releases, and Motörcharged the result, you would have this. The drums are at a pretty constant d-beat, the bass is nice and thick, the vocals sounds like modern-day MG, and the guitar chainsaws through everything. All the songs are catchy, and they all sound pretty similar, but if you like this style you're gonna eat it up, and even if you don't, a song like Wheel of Pain is undeniable. The third song, Return to Eden, is more mid-paced, but it doesn't slouch, it stomps along with purpose, and the bluesy guitar flourishes will hold your attention until it segues into the one-two punch of Out For Power and Turn Me Loose, the quickest songs on the demo. I have a hard time imagining anyone who is even remotely into punk or metal not enjoying this.
