Hypocrisy's "The Final Chapter" is often overlooked when people talk about their best work. I beg to differ. It's actually one of their better ones.
Many people say there's a lack of variety on TFC, because most of the songs are midpaced. Midpaced stuff is what Hypocrisy do best and there's still a couple of faster(Inseminated Adoption, Last Vanguard, Through the Window of Time) and some really slow songs(Lies, The Final Chapter). I don't see a lack of variety, and Peter manages to give every song his own distinctive edge.
The production is a little below average(for Peter's standards, of course) but it's still pretty good. Every instrument can be heard well.
Peter's vocals are great, like always, his clean voice is haunting and sorrowful(The Final Chapter, Request Denied, Inquire Within) and his growl has always been unique and great.
His guitar playing is tight, melodic and yet heavy(a very good example is Adjusting the Sun). There are also very good solos(most notable: Request Denied, Adjusting the Sun, Inquire Within) and awesome clean guitar lines to be found.
Peter wanted to end Hypocrisy with this album. Luckily, he didn't stop but if he did, this would be a great swansong. They'd reach their absolute top with the next album, their self-titled, and keep releasing quality work until today(yes, I also enjoy Catch 22).
Recommendations: Adjusting The Sun, Request Denied, Inquire Within, The Final Chapter, Lies, A Coming Race.
