I think this is the only single that Hypocrisy ever released, and it's a damn good one. The album cover is gory but well drawn and I happen to like it a lot. (In fact, it's my wallpaper)
"Carved Up" is taken from "Abducted" and Beginning of the End is a non album track(I think). Both songs are on the heavier side, showing the Masse Broberg era mixed with a few newer Hypocrisy melodies and Peter's new vocal approach.
Carved Up starts is a typical midpaced Hypocrisy headbanger, with crushing riffing and awesome vocal lines. Peter's singing here is a little higher than usual at the time, and he also uses his awesome REALLY high-pitched screaming. The solo near the end is very melodic and fits perfectly. An awesome song.
Beginning of the End is the highlight, though. It's a non album track, and a very good one too. I wonder why Peter didn't include it on any album, because it would easily fit on Abducted. The solo is totally crazy and Peter's vocals are completely evil sounding here, deeper and more raspy than usual. Catchy yet quite brutal riffing too.
Both songs rely heavily on atmosphere, like most of post-Obsculum Obscenum songs, and it works well in both cases.
This single is quite a good way to get into middle-era Hypocrisy. Recommended.
