First of all, I want to mention that I've been a huge fan of Luzbel and Arturo Huízar for years, and I strongly believe that Arturo Huízar has been one (if not the best) of the greatest talents of the mexican heavy metal scene.
That's why listening to this record was a huge disappointment.
Why? Because this album SUCKS!
I wasn't expecting too much when I first bought it, really. After listening to his
previous album, the weak "Pecado Capital", I knew things were never going to be the same, but i never thought it could be as bad as this.
This album is as horrible as it's cover.
The production is awful, same as the mixing. All of the instruments are too low in the mix, the drums sound extremely weak, the bass guitar is inaudible, the guitar is too low and sometimes lost in the mix, and there are some ridiculous keyboard pads that sometimes sound louder than everything else. The vocals are extremely high in the mix, showing that Huizar's voice started deteriorating at that time.
The mixing is so bad that it is nearly impossible to listen to this record at high volume without having a headache.
But what about the songs? I think the album opener "Guerrero Callejero" is a great one. It's a good heavy song, and if you pay attention, you can hear cool guitar riffs and licks, a good vocal line, and not wonderful but decent lyrics.
From here, everything goes downhill. I just don't like any other song on the whole album, no matter how many times I listen to it. The second track, "Años Luz", is probably one of the worst songs i've listened to in my life; extremely soft, terrible singing, horrible music... this one is annoying.
"Perdido por Tí" is a mid-tempo rocker, but is quite boring. No interesting riffs, no hook at all. "Nota Roja", the fourth track, is another soft and boring song, probably supposed to be the album's power ballad. "Tómame", "A Toda Velocidad", "Esta Noche", they're all bad songs and all of them sound the same, and as the musicians aren't particulary skilled, there is absolutely nothing interesting here (perhaps the instrumental "Gitana" can be enjoyable enough, showing some good guitar-work from César Calderón.)
This is not even heavy metal! This is some kind of hard rock that gets softer and softer, finishing the album with the annoying ballad "Cosas del Pasado".
I like hard rock, don't get me wrong. The problem is that these songs are bad.
But there's more! The lyrics! Damn, i think reading the lyrics was the saddest part of discovering this album.
The lyrics are incredibly bad! Huizar sings about love, partying, getting drunk ... they could've been written by a 7th grade student.
I won't even try to translate, but you can ask any spanish speaker like me, and everyone will tell you the same. The lyrics are ridiculous.
It's sad because Huizar earned a great reputation as an awesome poetic lyricist during his time with Luzbel. His lyrics were a great addition to the amazing songs of Luzbel, and soon became a trademark of the band.
And then he releases an album like this...
I definitely wouldn't recommend this album to anybody. Spend your money on something else, buy yourself an ice-cream, instead of this crap.
It isn't really expensive here in Mexico, but it may be expensive and hard to find for foreign people. Don't waste your time and money looking for this one.
I give it 10 out of 100 points, because i like the first song. That's all.
