A Nazi band from Brazil? It sounds weird but it existed. Holocausto were one of the most violent realities in the Brazilian metal panorama. They were very young, and I can accept some ridiculous and immature lyrics. Sepultura were satanic at the beginning, than they turned to more mature stuff and this is also the case of Holocausto. Anyway, let me music flow and let’s talk about this album a bit.
The beginning is not the most exalting one, being a Hitler speech to the crazy crowd. Ok, let’s continue, this time with the real music. The title track has a mid paced beginning to turn in brutal, primordial up tempo. We all know the classic Brazilian death/black/thrash metal violence in those years: down tuned, fuzzy guitars, hyper pounding drums (especially on the snare) and vocals ala Cronos but far more vicious and extreme. Nothing new and today it could sound so silly and immature, but that was extremism in the 1980s.
The solos are the classic tremolo pickings, that sometimes reminded me the horrible and primordial ones by Jairo “Tormentor” from Sepultura. “Forças Terroristas” is total up tempo with never-so-fast drumming and simple structures. Here the vocals are even more screamed, ‘till reaching the classic shrieks in a more primordial form. The production is really a low budget one but I don’t care and this thing even exalts me for the classic underground sound. These albums are great like this. If “Scoria” is a bit better structured with mid paced parts, the spectrum of Sarcofago returns in the frontal assault of “Façcao Revolucionaria Armada”.
The down tempos, for essentiality and production, are really similar to Hellhammer. Also the style is similar, made by picking just one chord most of the times. Sometimes there is also a proto black attitude in playing the guitars, through the tremolo picking on the power chords to create a good balance between death and black. The screams at the beginning to “Regimento Da Morte” are really similar to Chuck ones (Death), while the album continues on fast patterns.
The bass in very audible and by its distorted sound, is great to sustain and give a black touch to the whole sound. Overall, a good piece of primordial brutality. It’s far from the early Sepultura or Sarcofago levels…but it’s enjoyable and perfect to destroy everything.
