Headhunter - Parasite of Society

A Fine Representation Pf Power Metal And Thrash - 70%

Shirt_Guy, June 21st, 2008

For those unfamiliar with Headhunter, the band reformed recently to make what seems to be the most perfect amalgamation between power metal and thrash. Schmier’s vocals are a little less gritty than they are in Destruction, and he spends just a little extra time singing in a purely clean voice, sometimes backed up with a gang of shouts. The music itself also shows a perfect combo of thrash and power metal.

The thrash portion is of the Germanic style will rolling bass drums, pedal tone attacks, and just a hint of grittiness. The power metal comes through with soaring harmonies, the same kind that you can hear influenced melodic death metal bands we know today.

While it sounds like great fun, there are two things that hold “Parasite of Society” back just a little bit. There’s a lot of power metal and thrash mixtures already, and well the playing and production are so pristine and spot on that the whole effort seems emotionally detached. It’s still a fine effort if German power metal/thrash is your thing.
