Just because something is rip off of something else doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad. This is a perfect example of that. Grimaze is a band that is heavily influenced by Gojira. Here's the thing though. I honestly prefer this bands instrumentation over Gojira's, yet I also prefer Gojira's vocalist over this one.
This album is an incredible one for being this band's first full length release. The guitar tone is very good. It seems to implement rectifier amps, which always guarantees a crushing guitar tone. The guitar tone has a lot gain and high treble frequencies. The bass tone is good too. It has high bass and treble frequencies.
A lot of the riffs are unoriginal and blatant rip offs of riffs that can be heard in Gojira songs. However, once again I feel as though the instrumentation was done better than the original riffs they were based off of. The drums are very well done. Nothing too special going on with the bass. The vocalist is actually pretty damn good and has a sort of old school death metal feel to his style. However, he doesn't have any special vocal techniques. It's mostly just guttural yelling, but due to the fact that I prefer instrumentation of vocalization, I would choose this band over Gojira in a heartbeat.
My favorite track from this album would have to be Survival Of The Fittest. The album is fun time the entire way through it. For that, it gets my respect.
