Gospel of the Horns - Sinners / Monuments of Impurity

This is a Satanist's dream indeed! - 90%

Werewolf, December 19th, 2009

If you missed the tapes when they were available, here is a chance to get a better version of this stuff, which now also has a Moyen’s cover, done in the best(ial) b/w traditions! KNEEL BEFORE THE MASTER'S THRONE label knows how to make a release that respects the music and fits its aesthetics, and this one is not an exception!

As for the music, the 2nd demo Sinners is a great move forward and sounds way better than the debut in my opinion. The music is more coherent, the recording quality is better, and there are less parts of VON-style sub-primitive and super-useless drumming. From the first riff on this demo you can hear the fascinating guitar work that is greatly presented in the solos, which makes G.O.T.H. an above-average Black/Thrash band in my opinion. Nevertheless, it’s not hard to notice their native Australian influences, since they have that kinda “war” spirit in their music, and I still wonder how come that bands from such a silent country have.

After the 4 track Sinners demo, come 3 songs of M.O.I. EP, one of which is a very cruel sounding cover of Mortal Sin’s “Blood, Death, Hatred” that is executed with utter passion and dedication, but also with GOTH’s own blackened touch. Surprisingly – this EP has a way rawer sound, that is rather close to the 1st demo than the Sinners stuff, but it fits greatly and combines both the great musicianship of Sinners and the dirtiness that is so necessary for this genre. Fast and energetic, but unfortunately too short, that’s my favorite release from these 2 CD’s of their early stuff. This release is recommended to all Metalheads out there!
