Golgotha - Wet Dreams of the Insane

A Solid Demo - 82%

The Baphomet, October 20th, 2014
Written based on this version: 1991, Cassette, Needle Freak

Something that naturally needs to be taken into consideration preceding a review of a demo is, or course, the fact that what is being reviewed is a demo, and not a full release. With that being said, let's continue.

This demo turned out quite well to me. While influences from other bands are somewhat visible in this demo, I feel that at this stage in the band's life span, they were making a solid effort at creating their own sound. Dax's vocal style was developing also at this time, but you can certainly see great potential. His voice was still very enjoyable on its own. Particularly on the track 'Finger Paintings Of The Insane', you can really hear Dax's vocals propelling his talent through the music, and I really enjoy it.

As I said previously, Acid Bath (Or at this time, Golgotha) were already producing a unique sound. The sound quality in this demo is low, as is the norm, but I can still hear a unique guitar sound that really sets the atmosphere, emotion and feeling of the album. Tracks like Cradled In The Arms Of Death and Apartment 13 are just enjoyable to listen to, offer some good melodies and in turn, some great vocals.

I think what this demo really has to offer is an insight into what Acid Bath sounded like in its beginning stages, and how they morphed and developed over time. A great listen, and worth the time to give it a try.
