Fungoid Stream - Celaenus Fragments

Brilliant debut! - 100%

grimdoom, January 28th, 2008

Funeral Doom is ripe for expansion and this band proves it. What this two piece have created are unique and innovative soundscapes that bring to mind fear and wonder, awe and dread all the while being cohesive and abstract, this is one hell of a debut.

The production is the only real flaw here as it’s a little dry, but it doesn’t detract from the music at all. The guitars are original and well done. They aren’t the focal point but they are the most pronounced. The drums are programmed but they work/sound well. The keyboards are the highlight on display. They sound very good and provide a wide array of orchestral movements that would make Dimmu & Cradle weep with envy.

The vocals are alright at best, they don’t really add or detract from the music but they could have been better. (They would probably work best for a faster style of Metal.)

The songs are well crafted and just oozing with epic grandeur. This band has set the bar high for themselves. It will be interesting to see if they can make an equally masterful follow up. This is very recommended to any who crave originality and DOOM!
