Frantic Amber - Burning Insight

Frantic Amber seems like a solid band - 86%

I realise that there is a version of this on YouTube with a music video that was released earlier on, but Frantic Amber only officially released this for download the other day. Naturally, after finding their last song so interesting I felt the need to check this one out as well.

The first ten seconds of the song start out in an almost black metal-like style, with drums blaring and not much going on in the technical department. It's almost reminiscent of 1349 in a way. The song continues along a similar kind of style for a while until it reaches the chorus, and suddenly the melody I was expecting turns up. It's a little odd to have slow and melodic guitars playing over the top of drums beating at that kind of insane pace, but the band do pull it off extremely well.

The solo isn't anything magnificent, but it doesn't do anything drastic like ruin the song. The drums keep on pounding the whole way through apart from a pause of one second where you can hear the bass (making me wonder if that was exactly the purpose of the break) and the guitars keep the melody going after the solo section is done. The vocals on this track are more to my liking than on 'Ghost' as well, which is a bonus.

A minor niggle I have is that just before the end when everything goes up a scale, the song just doesn't sound quite as good. It's intended that it goes out on a high note, and while it does that literally it doesn't quite top the chorus at the scale it was originally played at. That's minor as it only lasts ten to twenty seconds and it doesn't destroy the last four minutes' work.

This band definitely seems more consistent than some of the others I've encountered recently, and I really can't wait to hear their full-length as soon as it is available in the UK.
