A one-man band from the UK, Foul Body Autopsy has released its second full-length album of its career. It's a brutal assault of fast thrash metal that is reminiscent of quasi-technical death metal acts such as Sinister.
For being named after the Necrophagist song "Foul Body Autopsy," this project isn't really super technical. There are moments on "Outbreak" that actually remind me of that Necrophagist song, but they aren't nearly enough to make it fully technical. In fact, as far as modern thrash metal goes, I wouldn't consider this project technical in any way.
As far as deathrash goes, Foul Body Autopsy have perfected it. That is, until we reach "Chaos Reigns." Basically, everything after this song isn't anything particularly special in terms of originality, technicality, or deathrash in general. The first three songs are a clear sign that he is capable of writing great music, but it is never a good thing when the artist puts their best stuff at the start of an album because that means the rest, "less-worthy" stuff has just been pushed to the back.
My other complaint is the production. Don't get me wrong, the sound is clear; I can hear every instrument clearly. It's just really bad in that the volume wavers around the entire album. There aren't just one or two spots on this thing that show this annoying flaw. No, it can be found on every track. Also, there is way too much dead air between each track. Like at the end of "Outbreak," there are 15 seconds of nothing. At the end of "Chaos Reigns," there are almost 30 seconds of silence. Thais kills all flow that was built by previous tracks. I don't understand what the point of the silence is. I don't know what made it so hard to just highlight that dead air and hit "backspace."
Overall, this is a fairly solid album. It's 27 minutes in length (without all the dead air, it would be like 25 minutes) and I like that. It makes it more listenable because it's not super cramped with stuff and it makes it good for multiple listens. It's a fun album, to say the least. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys fine riffs and doesn't let production bother them.
