Brazilian death-doom metallers Fossilization created a stir in the underground with their fantastic EP and split with Ritual Necromancy. Now they return, this time with a debut full length...

Solemn riffing contorts into life with intricate cymbal work, introducing the diabolic onslaught of evil extremity gloriously. While eerie, cavernous and otherworldly, the ferocity and punchiness of Fossilization is unmistakably intense with a savage execution. Throwing us in with such force can only promise greatness, The convulsive and malicious sounds are packed with exciting twists and turns from the earliest moment, giving a reek of archaic death metal prowess with their own uniquely mangled twists. Utilising dissonance, the upheaval of comfort is instant, surging through realms of decay and aggression with profoundly disquieting atmospherics. Amidst the churning guitars and scathing drum work, the crunchy low-end is equally brutal, as are the inhuman snarls of the vocalist. The entire cacophony of putrescence working in unison, as a lumbering behemoth of morbidity, to obliterate all that lies in their wake.

Taking the true death metal formula and adding these blackened and more doomy twists with sparse dissonance, visceral atmospherics and unforgiving bestial assaults might seem a hard balance to hold. Alas, Fossilization combine these furious elements into a fervent display of ultimate death metal ecstasy, designed to wound, maim and slaughter. Plunging toward macabre violence before pulling back into a gloomier and more sepulchral section only to revel in revulsion once more, this band combine their elements in a truly bewitching manner of animalistic malevolence. Carnage is never far away, though it takes many forms. Thankfully these diverse elements are woven together sublimely with an equally immersive production. The developing sense of dread in their very lucid yet unfathomably discomforting songwriting is tangible, leaving a sense of anxiety hanging potently in their air as the intensity grows to insane climaxes.

Hammering into the latter moments, this monument of anguishing viciousness does not give any respite. Holding you firmly in the grasp of horror while shaking the senses with undying eruptions of feral disdain, this album feeds into the senses of panic with such precision it is inescapable. The instrumentation is composed so magnificently and the vocal delivery seeks out any stragglers, nobody can (and presumably nobody would want to) turn away from this tormenting slab of excellence. The final moments of this record continue to deliver nothing but terrifying brilliance with the savagely surging music daunting until its final breath. This is one of those albums that when it finishes, due to the intensity, there is almost a sense of relief that you were spared before the longing to hear it again comes creeping in…

Booming with reverberate abyssal energy, there is no denying Fossilization have continues their conquest to triumph and terror. Their debut album is an absolutely excellent opus of death metal splendour that will transport eldritch horror to your minds eyes and force feed you its malicious delights.
