For a demo, I must say this is well done. Do we have new Ensiferum here? Yes, we do. I believe this band has the potential of becoming one of the most famous melodic death/folk metal band ever. Maybe I can't prove it, but their music can prove it.
Forsaken Hill is a band that I honestly I cannot get bored of while listening to them. Forsaken Hill uses a mixture of death and clean vocals in all of their songs. Forsaken Hill delivers atmospheric folk influences in their songs on this demo. Forsaken Hill even uses Viking influences that I believe are well-placed in their songs. I can say this demo is a mixture of Elvenking and Ensiferum . This band delivers the elements of power metal with the sound of clean vocals used by the vocalist and the folk influences from Ensiferum. Forsaken Hill's lyrics are actually interesting because they sing about the world we live in. They even sometimes describe the situations we go through in our life and how to react to them.
In my opinion, Beyond the Veil and Ride Into the Light are the highlights of this demo. Forsaken Hill convey Viking influences in the song Ride Into The Light. Drum solos are solid and guitar solos are stable upon the melody of the song. The chorus is even sung in death and clean vocals in a Viking style. The piano is played halfway through the song and it does change the atmosphere in the song. Death vocals are bellicose and euphonious. Beyond the Veil ( the longest song on this demo ) is named after the album and I believe it is one of the most catchiest song you can ever hear in your life. It starts of with soft piano keys being played, then you have guitar riffs that are similar to the ones from Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. The folk style in this song is incredible and he vocals are really good because of the mixture of death and clean vocals. The death vocals are aggressive, strong , and can easily grab your attention. The guitar riffs and solos are quite catchy and melodic.
In conclusion, this band is worth checking out and I highly recommend listening to this demo if you are an Ensiferum fan.
