Well, here's my review for the second demo by the band Foreskin. Seeing that there are no other reviews of this demo, I took it upon myself to do it. Not that I don't enjoy it, I do, but still. You lazy bastards couldn't do it first?
Anyways, lets talk about the production. Again. This time around, there is no problem with fuzz or high levels of volume or distortion. This, everything is too damn quiet, and too damn muddy. Seriously. The first track, "Bombs Away!" had this riff in the beginning that was sort of audible, I guess. When the drums came in, that all changed. Everything became bassy and muddy and dark and whatnot. It wasn't as pleasant as the production in the last demo. I'd definitely say that too much bass is as bad as too much treble, if not worse. "Wont Take Your Shit" is strange, really. This time the vocals are too muddy, and the guitar is turned down too much, and the bass is turned up too high. The drums could've been louder, however. The sounds of beating someone in the end were cool though. The last track, "Impaling the Grotesque" is a strange track. I'm not sure what to think of it. I don't know if it's supposed to be an ambient track, or a deathgrind sort of track, like the first one supposedly is.
Now, the music, once more. The good thing about this demo, is that the bass is audible, which serves for some pretty sweet basslines. The drums are very nice in this demo, considering they are much faster, and more extreme. With blast beats and what not. I noticed, however, that the two demo's remind me of two other albums from a different band. Metallica's "Kill Em All" is brought to mind when thinking further about the first demo, and upon thinking of this one, "Ride the Lightning" comes to mind. Think about it, KEA had this very bright tone about is, and the bass wasn't as crushing as it was in RTL. This band has some good riffs, and I can't wait to hear the EP, because I know it won't be as bad production. Anyways, back to the music. The second track here, "Wont Take Your Shit" has a good bassline as well, and an obscure riff. The drumline is interesting though, because coupled with the bass, it's sort of jazzy. There's not much else to say about this one, really. And the last track, well, I can't even hear anything discernable, so, we'll leave that for now.
All in all, it's certainly sort of a step down. I couldn't judge the music properly, because the bass frequencies were so loud, and the treble was so low. I think the mids could've been turned high as well, that could've contributed to the sound. However, this time, bass is atleast audible, and it sort of makes up for the lack of clear guitar tracks. The EP should be much better, because this time around they'll know not to overload on bass.
