Fecundation are a brand new band in Korea’s extreme music scene, and they go by the slogan “99% Brutality, 1% Yngwie Malmsteem”. That’s what you’ll get with this band, one of the first technical death metal acts to come out of Korea. Jongha is definitely a very skilled and technical guitarist and shows it in this album,

These days, Korea is catching on to a wider variety of genres of metal, what with Gonguri and Smoking Barrels introducing doom metal into the peninsula, now we got an awesome technical death metal band in Fecundation, possibly Korea’s first band to perform such a style. This three piece, consisting of guitarist/vocalist Jongha Jeong, bassist Corey Miles, and drummer Yongman Kwon have quickly gained a following within the underground scene and released their debut album just shortly after their formation.

Jongha does a really good job in this album at handling the very difficult double duties of being the vocalist and the band’s only guitarist, and with a slogan of “99% brutal, 1% Yngwie”, one nay have trouble having hopes but Jongha truly delivers with amazing solos. Particularly, in “From Grave to Cradle”, a personal favorite track of mine, Jongha pulls off some amazing neo=classical style solos, but at the same time they go really well with the death metal music.

His vocals are also extremely sick and brutal, somewhat reminiscent of Dying Fetus or Baphomet. There being only one guitarist in the band also gives a chance for the bassist to shine, and thus give the music a thicker, heavier sound. Yongman’s drumming is also very technically competent. With a name like Fecundation, one may expect a slamming death metal band, but instead of a guy constantly blast beating, you have a guy who does well-timed beats at the right time, showing some really skilled song writing.

I must say that if there was a band in the Korean metal scene that gives me hope for the future of the genre in this country, Fecundation would be that band, definitely one of the best of the younger bands in this country.
