Feastem - World Delirium

Feasting on crust - 79%

tomcat_ha, December 6th, 2014

Grindcore is a tricky genre. Often said to be played by people who can't really play because of the reputation of bands like Anal Cunt and what else not. This does not really reflect the modern state of grindcore at all in my eyes. So many modern grindcore bands around these days are more than proficient at their instruments. However at the end of the day grindcore at its base is a punk subgenre preferring energy and feeling over technical shredfests. Although that does not hold up that well anymore either with bands like Gridlink.

Feastem are not one of such technical bands. They play modern crusty grindcore influenced by Insect Warfare and Wormrot and like those bands they can play. I would not however say that Feastem are as good as the two aforementioned bands. Their songs just fall just short, their riffs lack the last special bit to truly give them a position as one of the best. Maybe the drummer could be a bit more dynamic on this album he gets close at times but he is not quite a whirlwind like the best of the genre are. The songs however do change stuff up. Like the slow part in Trapped or the various crusty parts in most of the songs.

Now some of you might be wondering how innovative or original this album is. Well it ain't. Is that a bad thing? No this is grindcore and grindcore is all about how good the ride is. How good the band is at keeping the car going at full speed through a busy lane and these guys are fairly good at it maybe just not the best. However do you really want to keep on listening to the same Insect Warfare album over and over again?
