Emortus is another member of the California death metal scene. Through the enormous scene they have up there, this is one to check out. Emortus displays a lot of talent in the death metal field, with a hint of black metal thrown into the mix. Though, don't be expecting a Belphegor style band. They are quite different.
This release begins with an intro track, it might add some ominous sounds, but it easily forgotten. Once you get to the next track, the headbanging begins. Be prepared for heavy, fast guitar lines to shred your face off. The guitar has a nice tone, which supplements the black metal influence they have. The riffs bombard you every track. There's a nice amount of variation though, you wont get bored. There's a quick guitar solo in 'The Infernal Assault' in the last seconds of the song. There needs to be more solos..can't have too many solos! The bass is a bit muffled in the mix, which is a little bit of a turn-off. Though, when it can be heard fully, it makes the music a lot heavier. The drummer is fast, and knows what he is doing. The crushing snares and symbols fit into the mix of noise very well. The vocals consist of two different styles: Exhales, or grunts if you like and a raspy sort of black metal scream. They both supplement each other very well, and also give off some black metal feel.
Emortus fuses their influences very well. Though, they might not be as technical as Nile or Origin, the music is entertaining none the less. This band has a pretty bright future if they keep releasing material like this. With a name as close to the band Exmortus, they must be awesome right? I'd say so.
