Emaciated are a fresh death metal act, putting out their first demo tape this year titled Crucified From The Inside. Considering the demo’s artwork, I’m amazed that this isn’t a messy and noisy first landing. While still grueling and aggressive, I found this to be very concise for the demo stage, clicking along with rapid drum lines that don’t overshadow straightforward riffing. This hits right away in the title track, and “A Stunning Display” works as a solid transition with haunting passages.
Sometimes, brighter patterns weave in and out, blending faster power-chords into whining leads that feel layered, shown clearly in “Starved Of Daylight.” “Climate Apocalypse” has a beefy chorus, shifting the vocal tone away from the monotonous tactics used in the rest of the song. A breakdown-type foundation is thrown into the back half, using echos to convey a harder tone. Closer “Toil In The Soil” is a longer tune that opens on an acoustic lick, fading into the perfect way out. Considering how early in the game this group is, it’s safe to say I’m pretty impressed.
