For the past couple of days and until the current moment, I've had this piece of gold that is entitled Land of Gold, ringing in my mind, and for a lot of reasons I decided to sit for a few hours to write something for you gentlemen, to criticize this 3-song EP in the best way I can, to deliver to you the great impressions I've gained after listening to it, and to carry my regards to the band for the great offer they've done in this masterpiece.
However, before I start reviewing it: this release is short considering its total length, but it's still a major success for how legit the quality came out in the end. From the right side, this band reminded me of the epic touches of Ensiferum, and they also reminded me of the amazing rising project "Ithilien". The first song here is Exile, starts with choir, epic guitar riffs and solid drum beats, the vocals are fitting and the mixing is suitable. It is mastered perfectly with the rest of the tracks. The track contains great symphonies, this is a great song for your mind if you're into battles, old tales, stories of fantasy and fictions of warriors and legends. The second song is entitled "Land of Old", it's simply a gem and my favorite piece here, it starts with symphonies and atmospheres of longing and hope in an epic and traditional way, then it goes on until it blasts like the previous mentioned track with faster riffs, with a lot of solos and incredible drumming by Alexandr Desyatnichenko and the astonishing singing by Mr. Shapovalenko.
Time of the Ancient is the last track here, which ends the EP in a way that made me whine a lot for more, and forced me to mail one of the members for more than this short piece, I totally don't remember when was the last time that I heard this wave of epic folklore in metal; other than Ensiferum I haven't heard better than this. In this song you'll find choirs and female singing. grim atmosphere and well-done keyboard riffs with satisfying mastering. Lyrics include:
"Glory goes to those who fight
Despite the fading odds
Above the body of the demon lord
Our hero stands triumphant"
If I'd whine about something here then it's the cover art, other than that the music here is perfect. They satisfied me in every meaning, and I've enjoyed this sixteen minute journey with Eldertale, as this is actually how epic folk metal should be in my humble opinion. It is, as far as I've noticed, one of the best releases I've heard this year in this sub-genre, despite its shortness. I definitely want more and cannot wait. Contact the band for a copy, listen to their music and spread it for the others that appreciate this rising talent.
