EgoNoir - Die Saga

Very good Black Metal in the Vein of Strid - 90%

austrianwolf, September 14th, 2004

The first time I heared this cd, I couldn“t believe that it is a german band. It sounds more like a scandinavian band called Strid (genious; I know). But this is not a copy of any other band, no; EgoNoir created a own special feeling! Sometimes agressive, sometimes melancholic.

The cd begins very creeping, a depressive voice introduce the story of EgoNoir (not the story of the band, but the story of the fictiv person egonoir *g*). The melodies are always dark but also melodic, not melodic like trendy kiddie Black metal, more like old Manes or Strid. But with the third song came another influence, a bit electronic sounds. To my wonder it fit great to the other songs. Also other instruments find a place in some songs, like violins, trumpets .But never dominated the guitars, only to support the atmosphere. The most time in midtempo and seldom to fast. But sometimes the japanese drummer ( why not one of flesh and blood?) sounds overdosed, and this is very ugly.

The voice is more then great! A repertoire between depressive screams(a bit Varg Vikernes) to hateful growls ( a great part at the end of the first song, the voice sounds like a really crow, hehe). The last song "UP from the graves" ( my personal favorite), the voice is really like on the greatful "Panzerfaust" of Darkthrone.

A great piece of Black Metal. I hope to hear more of this band in the future!
