There are some albums which communicate to you something more than emotions and feeling. Sometimes happens that an album becomes a part of your life. This is what happened to me with Ea II. I would never give 100 to any album, because i believe that perfection does not exist in this world, but Ea II is one of the albums which get very very close to perfection.
We already know the story of Ea, but for those who don't know, I'll try to explain in a few words. These guys from Russia (at least one thing is certain) are surrounded by mystery. Opening the booklets of their albums, you will find nothing, except a phrase which tells you that they sing in an ancient dead language. No one even knows which this language is, and no one can understand it only listening to the music, cause the growl is so deep that's is impossible to distinguish even a single word. But this is not the main point. Ea became a bit famous in the Funeral Doom Metal scene because of their epic and crushing music, filled in with sacral grandeur. Ea Taesse was a nearly perfect debut album, and Ea II follows the path tracked by the debut, but it brings some interesting variations. For example, guitars are now less preponderand and the main role is played by keyboards and synths, which create a very atmospheric platter. Listen, for example, to the beginning of the first track (only two tracks in total, and both untitled!). The sound of the wind introduces to a martial piano, which leads to celestial notes of keyboard. Then, the guitar explodes with some huge and even melodic riffs, which lead to the first growlings, as deep as an abyss. These elements, piano, synths, choirs and even organium (which now has taken a bigger part: in Ea Taesse it was only an accompanyment to other instruments) are mixed together wisely, never exceeding in heaviness or drone atmospheres. Some atmospheric breaks, with the sound of drops of water falling in a pond, help to relax and to consider Ea II as an unique, huge work which has to be listened from the beginning to the end, to be understood. Someone says that this album is regurgitated from Ea Taesse. but i don't agree. Surely the sound is similar, but Ea II brings the music to other dimension, creating an atmosphere that in Ea Taesse was hidden by the power of heavily distorted guitars. I can say that probably Ea II is the best album Ea created. They were able to evolve, even if slightly, and give us another pearl of dark light. When you'll arrive to the end of the second track, with the melodic guitar-solos (very rare in Ea music) which lead to the final organium part, you will touch with your hand the enormous power of this music.
I finish this review telling you another thing. I listened this album the first time when i was in Iceland, walking inside a volcanic crater of 50 kmq. The weater was sunny and bright, and the music was in my ears. This was one of the most intense moments of my life. Maybe there is a reason. Buy this jewel, you will not regret.
