Pure Fucking Thrash!

The inane title and the unimaginative art may be the first clue towards the fact that this isn't the most rewarding thing to listen to. While this wasn't blatantly atrocious, it certainly comes off as amateurish as well as a tad generic. While they certainly sound thrashy, they also undeniably sound like a demo band. There certainly is potential here, especially in the guitar, but it doesn't come close to being realized on this demo.

Pure Fucking Thrash! isn't an entirely accurate description of the music (sorry, I had to); black metal also frequently makes it's influence known. Tremelo riffs sometimes work their way into the plethora of typical thrash riffs. Mark's vulgar, dirty singing sometimes morphs into a rasp. George Ondi, who handles the guitar work, will no doubt go on to do amazing things. His shredding is the most memorable thing about this demo. It should be known that he was very young when he recorded this (and still is at the time I write this) - he was born in 1995! His riffing isn't quite as good as his shredding, but it is by no means lacking. He comes up with some cool stuff in the original songs, and plays the covers with competence. The vulgarity of the vocals is quite suited to this dirty thrash sound; while the vocalist may be somewhat technically inept, Mark is not at all a detractor. The only real problem with him is sometimes his vocals temporarily lose their power and sound weaker than usual. The drumming is this album's biggest fault. It can only be described as completely sloppy - and not in a good way that would be suited to thrash music. The drums often seem to be somewhat out of synch with the guitar. Frequently barebones, they rarely bring anything interesting to the table.

Five out of eight of these tracks are covers. The choice of covers seem largely obvious. Venom's "Black Metal", Death's "Lack of Comprehension" and Metallica's "Motorbreath" are all amazing songs, but make for some pretty expected covers. The covers sound exactly how you'd think a thrash band in their demo phase would play them. The cover of Darkthrone's "Candian Metal" (who wants to bet they wouldn't have chose this song if it had a different name?) contains the demo's biggest blunder. Mark attempts an extremely high pitch operatic type vocal, and fails miserably. His unfortunate screech really puts a damper on the song. Another letdown is the intro to "Lack of Comprehension". While the intro in the original was absolutely mind blowing, here it comes off as a very pale comparison, being one of the most blatantly amateur parts of the demo.

Durvaság don't make it hard to guess that they are still in their demo stage. The amateurishness of this demo shouldn't be too alarming, considering how young these guys are (only one of the members was born before 1995). I'm sure they will go on to do some impressing things. While they have may have reached their goal (judging by the demo's title) of being fucking thrashy, they have not succeeded in creating something interesting or fresh.
