Dungeon - Fortress of Rock

Looks Heavier Than It Is - 70%

brocashelm, December 31st, 2008

One of the more rare US metal albums released during the eighties, this one has a perceived value based more on collectors desperate to claim a vinyl copy than it's actual musical content. For those of you who remember the medieval metal style of Griffin, Liege Lord or early Fates Warning, this is essentially what Dungeon do, only their sound lacks purpose and their songs are well shy of being terribly original. Some of this material cuts through the thin (no bass to speak of) production to work in a very dated sort of way ("Witches Brew" "Eternal Contract") but mostly this deserved to be obscure. In all fairness, I'll take old school power metal like this over Hammerfall or Kamelot any day, but it's still not the kind of record you need to empty your bank account for.
