This is Dub Buk’s third full length album. While this is much different than their previous release Idu Na Wy and not really as epic, Rus Ponad Vse has many other great things to offer and still has the elements that were apart of the older albums.
The most obvious thing is that the songs are shorter but very thrashy. The guitar work is fast and excellent here. Can you say catchy? I did say the songs were fairly short compared to last album, but you will see that a lot goes on in them, from tempo changes, to riff changes, throwing in some symphonic parts, and even some weird techno beats. Marsh Sokyr Slovianskih is a good example of my last sentence and one of the best tracks here. With that song, I can’t really tell you about all the great parts in it, because it is just that damn good all throughout.
This album tends to throw some techno beats and if you’re reading this, it may sound cheesy, especially for a Ukrainian folk/black metal band, but it just adds to the album. CWA Batalion and Slovjanskyj shturm - Perun zlatorun are good examples of this.
If there is anything negative about this album, it’s that it could’ve used a few more songs, just 1 or 2 and this would have been awesome, although that is not a big deal. Also, the vocals in the last 2 songs might be considered weird by some people. (The last song is like a chanting folk song).
Highlights: Mash Sokyr Slovainskih, Rus Naivishe Nad Vse.
Overall, this is definitely an amazing album, especially if you are into bands like Nokturnal Mortum or Astrofaes. The songs move very fast and are pretty unpredictable. It seems like Dub Buk are trying to find their own style and based on this album it seems they are doing a damn good job. I can not wait for the next album.
