Dragonslayer - Noches de tormenta

New Power Metal With That Vintage Sound - 56%

SnowVixen, July 10th, 2004

Remember the days before power metal was flowery and keyboard laden? The days when it wasn't looked down upon as "faggy" by most of the scenesters, and Helloween and Maiden were the bands of the hour? Well, Dragonslayer sure do.

Sounding like either of those bands on occasion, and an amalgam of both the rest of the time, this band seems fully content to do little more than outright worship both of them. They'll literally go from sounding like Maiden to Helloween within seconds of eachother in a song, but they do it in such a way that it's almost a nostalgic "ahh... yeah..." feeling than seeming like outright plagiarism. Their sound is very clear and well produced, with a pretty nice tone on all the instruments. The vocalist is pretty high, as per the standard, and Spanish doesn't adapt too well to power metal, but it's never actually bad or annoying at any point.

Yeah, this is pretty much just another old school power metal album. Nothing really spectacular about them, but a pretty solid album nonetheless. They managed some catchy moments and fairly memorable riffs, and that's all I could really want from them. The problem with this album is that it's a little too average. I'm not at a loss for words or anything, there's just nothing really to say about it.
