Doom - Why!? / Last Stand to Hell

Distinctive thrash - 100%

deft, April 3rd, 2010

Doom was way ahead of their time. Their first flexi EP pretty much proves that. Koh “Pirarucu” Morota on fretless bass has a unique and distinctive sound. On every album Doom shows a mercurial thrash sound. On this effort they show a dedication to the real heaviness, "Why" has a rough sound. It starts off with Koh slamming his bass and awesome/intense drumming by Jyo-ichi “Joe” Hirokawa. Just perfect. "Last Stand To Hell" features great badass riffing and soloing by Takashi “Taka” Fujita. Awesome how this band took their influences from the progressive rock/avantgarde scene. Although they're the masters of "Engrish" lyrics, the music itself doesn't suffer from this at all.

Released on the legendary Rock House Explosion label, it's really hard to find this rare EP. So when You do, don't hesitate. Both songs on this effort would soon be re-recorded and re-released with two more songs on the "Go Mad Yourself" EP, released in the same year.
