Demonlord? More like Demolord. - 94%

This demo is one of a kind and is the first of Demonslaught's releases that isn't too rare to find a copy of. When I popped this demo into my CD player I figured I would be hearing another generic black thrash band, but I was instantly proven wrong. The first song after the intro, "The Book of Callings", had me begging for more. The riffs on this song and throughout the demo were simple, yet original and dark sounding. These style riffs reminded me of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost's "Morbid Tales", obvious classics, but what convinced me was the vocals.

The vocals on this demo aren't necessarily original but just regular black metal style vocals, yet they sound like Tom Warrior doing black metal style vocals. It's the way the vocalist occasionally throws in grunts or a high pitched yell throughout various songs fits in perfectly with the Celtic Frost/Hellhammer style riffing. But the vocals and the riffs aren't the only good thing about this demo though.

This release is fairly lengthy considering it's only the bands second demo. It contains 7 original songs lasting around 30 minutes all together that all are unique, but still have the same original, dark, and desolate sound. On this demo, thrash and black metal are both covered so for anyone who likes blackened thrash metal, I would say this is a necessity. I would recommend this band and release to fans of anyone from Celtic Frost to Sodom to Beherit. Whether you're an old school black metal listener or a thrasher, this is for you.
