Wow......just wow. The last time I heard a newer thrash album that completely engulfed me in the listening experience was the first time I listened to Slayer's latest. These two gents from Norway sure know what they're doing, and the recording defiantly backs this up. The riffs on this album are so fucking evil sounding, it's not even funny. The music on this album sounds like a cross between Slayer, Venom, Darkthrone, and Toxic Holocaust. This results in some killer riff-age, that becomes memorable by the time you decided to give this beast a second spin.
The biggest positive I have towards this album, is that Deathhamer don't just rely on their influences for a big nostalgia-ridden cheese fest that makes you and I cringe the whole way through (I'm looking at you Evile, ya Metallica wannabes). Instead, Deathhamer use their influences to create something new, that adds something new to thrash metal, rather than provide us with another copy of Kill Em All. Yes, the production on this thing is rough, but it adds to the overall atmosphere of the album. The production is cold, raw, and hollow sounding, but this isn't And Justice For All levels of hollowness, (seriously, fuck you Lars for wanting to kill the bass so that your mediocre drumming could be heard loud and clear for all of us to hear) the production on this album is like a good black metal album. You hear how rough it sounds and you begin to think "This sounds like complete and total shit" but you keep listening on because the music has caught your attention and you can't help but become engulfed by it. By the 2nd or 3rd song, you realize that the production is perfect the way it is, for if Deathhamer decided to have a squeaky clean, over-produced sound to the album, it wouldn't be the same listening experience as the one your in store for when you listen to Evil Power.
I HIGHLY recommend my fellow thrashers listen to this album. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that this is HIGHLY ESSENTIAL listening for all metal-heads. For those who like their thrash metal fast and raw, this album will please you immensely.
