Death Feast - Risen from the Tomb

Risen from the '80s - 85%

TheSkull1965, February 5th, 2023
Written based on this version: 2023, CD, Haloran Records (Limited edition)

Death Feast is not what you expect from a common Death/Thrash Metal band but purely Thrash and Death riffs filled with a rotten and raw Black Metal production, reminding us of bands like Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Mutilator, in the days when nobody knew if they were listening to Black, Death or Thrash Metal, but it was all Metal and that's what mattered. “Risen From The Tomb” it’s a homage to ‘80s Metal, featuring the beautiful Ingrid Pitt in its cover, and to be honest that's what made me listening to it in the first place.

Tracks like “Crossing The Fire” and “Banish From Monastery” bring slap you in the face with intense and powerful drums, cutting riffs, a scary vocal tone and guitar solos at the level of some of the best from Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The album has an intense and dark atmosphere, and it is exactly what you would expect from the beautiful art cover you see, with slower tracks like “The Evil Crown” and “Hell Funeral”, with someone coming out of the coffin, rotten and undead. “Commandments Of Metal” and “Risen From The Tomb” are the more Thrash Metal sounding tracks, with the latter having a riff and chorus that sticks in your ears and just makes you want to do a repeat. “Volcano” finishes the album perfectly, with a slow intro that quickly turns into chaos and destruction, J.A.’s riffs are astonishing and Nuno’s solo on the top makes it the perfect track. Jorge's vocals are powerful, mostly low (and/or pitched) as in Death Metal, but occasionally high and sharp as Black Metal accustomed us.

It’s not the perfect album but what you find here is pure and unique if ‘80s Metal is your thing, and that’s exactly what Death Feast is supposed to be «an idea of J.A. to perpetuate the Death Thrash movement of the 80's.». Expect nothing but some of the best riffs and solos you will ever hear.
