With this third release on Paragon Records, Dark Celebration creates a musical journey that’s fresh, invigorating and honest. I have not heard their first and second releases. I’m writing this review because fans of good extreme metal will enjoy this CD.
When listening to the album I can hear some amazing musicianship that focuses on lots of infectious and mesmerizing harmonies in the guitar playing. Take track 2, Sulphur, I have listened to this song numerous times and one can hear early Morbid Angel, circa Alters of Madness. The riffs in the song take me back to a time when I was listening to the German power/speed metal band Running Wild. The rhythmic parts in the song Infra Dark and Legacy of Fire have some similarities to Cannibal Corpse circa The Bleeding. Those two tracks are great songs. They definitely get the blood pumping and adrenaline flowing. With all 7 songs on this album, the solos and harmonies that are created stand out for me more then anything else. If you like clean, crisp melodies with the twin guitar attack then check this band out! I think I can also say that the Painkiller album by Judas Priest was a definite influence to Dark Celebration on this album. Vocally you have a death and thrash metal performance with some spoken word moments. The approach to vocals overall is very original. I have never heard a vocalist that sounds quite like Daniel Goldenberg. With Dark Celebration combining the brutality of black/death metal and taking the melodic atmosphere of the Gothenburg sound, and not sounding lame, they have accomplished a landmark of a record!
In closing this is yet another perfect example of another great underground release that has gone far too overlooked! I recommend this CD for those looking for great underground metal.
