Dørkun - Eradication of the Humankind

Good, but not exceptional - 70%

Nice songs for a one-man band, but the whole stuff would sound different with the help of some more musicians. Especially the drums or better said the drum-computer is a little bit annoying, as the play is more or less limited to a very monotonous style and offers hardly any variation in each song. The circumstances of being a one-man-band are undoubtedly reflected in the way the songs are arranged and how they progress over their length. Simplistic composed songs are offered on the first release of Dørkun and despite the catchiness of the guitars, more could have been made out of the ideas would have some additional musicians brought some additional ideas into the composition process. Drums (often the snare drum) and guitars are sometimes closely connected in terms of their playing; it happens that some lead-up to breaks offer this kind of ‘unique’ form of arrangement.

Dørkun’s music is pretty raw in its style and even though there is some bass now and then, it lacks of power and therefore the vocals, the snare-drums and the guitars are dominating the music; in this order. Together they play a style best described as influenced by the early days of Black Metal. Especially the way the songs are composed reminds someone clearly to the works of Darkthrone, but the sound of the vocals wake rather memories on Satyr… do not ask me why. The catchiness of the riffs makes the music pretty enjoyable and some light on the band’s potential, or better said on the person behind Dørkun, is already being shed on this first demo. This demo is recommended to those in favour of raw and old-school Black Metal.
