As my first little foray into goth metal, I can gladly say this guy's stuff has left me with a good impression of an otherwise oft-maligned genre (By my experience, at least) of metal. The guitar riffing, whether clean or distorted, places an emphasis upon melody and is generally mid-tempo to a slow churn (The track "Inhaling the Poison", however, does have a particularly fast section in it) . The clean parts have a nice reverb used on them that bring to mind the Anathema song "Sleepless" when I hear them. The keyboards are quite tastefully used, and add a good bit of atmosphere to the overall presentation of the music, sometimes over-powering the guitars in terms of audibility. I particularly liked the odd little harmonics and swells in "Ravenous Blood".
The solos are not typical metal solos, as displayed by the aforementioned track and "Inhaling the Poison", these particular leads being fairly minimalistic, while enjoyable in much the same way David Gilmour's soloing would be. There are quite a range of vocals used on this EP, from raspy growls akin to black metal, deeper growls that remind me of some brutal death singers, and melodic singing. "The Lindwurm", as he calls himself, has managed to put together a very interesting EP, with the music perfectly fitting the concept of a slow descent into madness, making a good use of soft/harsh dynamics within the typical verse/chorus/verse pop song structure, while at the same time creating something fresh and interesting. I would certainly recommend this EP to others, and I for one will be awaiting the next musical output of "The Lindwurm".
