Cryptic Hatred started 2022 with a bang when they released their first full-lenght album "Nocturnal Sickness". Now they are back at it with a new single and I just wonder, does it live up to their previous release?
Chasm on Void starts with a huge punch to the balls right from the start. It's heavy, dark and fast which is great but the biggest change to their prior album is the sounds. The sounds that were already great on their full-lenght are even better and more polished on Chasm of Void.
After the intro the song gets into a really groovy rhythm which is the trademark Cryptic Hatred sound. The riffs continue and to be honest after the intro, the song gets kinda boring. It feels like we have already heard this song before on their prior release and it's really nothing new.
Nothing really happens until the breakdown which reminds me a lot of their older song "Into the Depths". In my opinion the resemblance is way too close and I'm probably not the only one that noticed that.
The outro on the other hand is really something amazing. Developing their own sound and going further from their Cannibal Corpse roots, the outro sounds almost like something Demigod or Convulse would have done in the 90's. I really love this and it's the peak of the song for sure.
In summary beside from the outro, the song is nothing that we haven't heard from Cryptic Hatred. Sure, the sounds are a bit better but musically it’s really nothing mind blowing. Sadly I am a bit disappointed because the song as a whole is kinda boring and I was really excited about this new single. It’s not bad but it’s not really that good either, it’s just okay.
I’m still really thrilled to see what they have to offer on their next release, despite this one song being just okay.
