Cristo Cadavérico - Cerimonial Destruição

Those goat-men look like they're having fun! - 65%

Zodijackyl, June 6th, 2017

Dark and primitive black metal, contrasting fast and mid-paced parts to the pleasure of the goat-men on the cover. Similar in style to their first demo, but this time with a better sound - the drums are fuller, the distortion of the guitars cuts through, but it still broods and builds the dark atmosphere that this type of black metal thrives on. Unfortunately, some of the melodies feel a bit less distinct than their first demo, but the overall sound is better on this one.

Dissonant chords build tension during the slower sections, while melodic tremolo lines are the highlight of the faster contrasting sections. It feels like the band took cues from the feelings of faster bands like Marduk, then stretched them out across a sparse backdrop, rather than a blasting fury - I like this feeling quite a bit. Some of the slower, morbid feelings and dirty, ringing guitar parts are reminiscent of the filthy and melancholy atmosphere of old Mutiilation. More than these influences and similarities, this band seems to have their own sound. They seem to build songs from the concept, rather than from the archetype - they're not a clone of anything.

This is good, but like their last demo, not distinct nor exceptional. I enjoyed a couple listens, but it is nothing special. Give it a listen if you like the sound of this.
