Decision to Extinction

This is an okay death metal demo tape. I borrowed it from a friend. It is very repetitive and monotonous, but vicious sounding. The vocalists death grunts are gutteral and incomprehensible. It sounds like he's belching. The guitar riffs are very downtuned and heavy. The solos, when they occur, are quite good with much two handed tapping. The bass, as in most metal releases period is completely lost in the mix. The drums are the best part. The drummer is able to do blast beats, syncopated double bass drum rhythms and basic thrash drumming. He is really good. The lyrics on this album are entirely about how mankind has destroyed the earth with some gore lyrics thrown in. The songs pretty much all sound the same and riffs are recycled alot. It is hard to tell where one song stops and another starts. The only track that stands out at all is the instrumental "Mystic Waves". It is a short acoustic track with some water sounds in the background. All in all, it's okay.
