Amidst the Greek black metal, bands that conquer the local scene a number of Heavy bands had made an effort over the years to play the favorite genre of a Greek metal head. Epic metal! This is the case for Clairvoyant, and to some extent, they have succeeded delivering an album with seeds of brilliance. Their compositions are rich and original, based on majestic keys and some very interesting riffs, which make the difference from an average heavy band.
However, there are problems you cannot ignore. First of all the vocals (which are a great deal for an epic band) lack of a proper accent and sound weak at times decreasing the synthetic value of the songs. Second, the rhythm section is not as coordinated as a professional effort demand and that results to some very annoying errors that brings us to the third problem, which is a rather poor production accompanied by a total absence of mixing that could fix the above mentioned errors. A real shame considering the talent the songwriting suggests.
On the other hand, the album has some strong points. “Fighter’s Soul”, “The Place” and “Clairvoyant” where the errors are not as apparent as in the rest of the album, a surprisingly descent is the cover of Virgin Steele’s “Don’t Say Goodbye” and some quite powerful solos in “The Place” and “Fate’s Game”.
Clairvoyant have potential, but they must explore it to the fullest if they seek some noticeable recognition that will bring them to the next level.
