“…agony dulls your screams to cries…”
What’s missing from Chemikill’s debut demo, Impending Doom, is here with a fat ‘n chunky low-end via Falling Sound Studio, and it works some wonders for the four-piece’s sound. No doubt the guys were pleased after hearing this.
This determined cusp year endeavor is ripe with three tracks still fraught with thrash hubbub, however now it seems some technical know-how and progressive resourcefulness has infiltrated their more straightforward formula from a mere year ago. Naturally with this progression comes maturity, and “Death Watch”, “Morbid Reaction” and the title tune (which also consumed some airtime on ‘91’s Metal Massacre XI compilation), while still head-whippingly wild and intense, help illuminate the dimming style’s glow with little light bulbs over their heads.
Audio torchlight once again flickers on walls tacked with Testament and Sacred Reich posters and perhaps some torn out glossies of Flotsam and Jetsam and a bunch of lesser-known thrashers, meanwhile Mr. Cummings is still rough n’ tumble like a cross between, oh I don’t know, Chuck Billy and Phil Rind on more lighthearted days (it only makes sense, eh?) without becoming derogatory. Consumed by Hate (demo and song) closes with a squall of rhythmic breaks that bludgeon a smile onto my face.
Still no signatures ornament a dotted line, however.
