I was excited for this release because I almost always enjoy EPs in the slam genre. Some friends had warned me that "it's just slam for the sake of slam," and they were right. There's nothing unique or new here. It's still enjoyable for what it is, but don't go into it expected any depth.
Musically it's what you'd expect from this band. Slower caveman riffs, some military-march riffs, sections of pinch harmonic spam, and spare use of breakdowns. Nothing in their composition has evolved and that's not necessarily bad - people who listen to stupid slam just want stupid slam. My favorite songs would be "Infatuated Acroposthion" which has a great pinch harmonic-heavy breakdown, and "Throbbing Abnormalities" because of its 'ocean wave' crushing slam riff.
Vocals are a deep gurgle although as the album moves on you'll hear more and more cricket vocals. Like in "Gonorrhea Nodule Mastication" the variation is all back-loaded; the last songs have more to tell them apart by. No attempt to pronounce the lyrics, of course.
Drumming is one of the better parts of the release here. Solid, fast performance from Nunez with plenty of blast beats, double bass pedal, and delicious snare drum abuse. The drums are right at the center of attention thanks to the production - they're loud, not buried, and the snare drums are gross and cranked so nasty you get a sharp sound which is what you want in this genre.
The production is the best part aside from the drumming. It's a slightly more modern take on their signature 'crunchy' sound, totally gross, raw, and higher pitched feeling than a lot of this kind of music is. The guitars sound like a handful of dice, it's hard to describe but instantly identifiable as Cerebral Incubation.
Overall yes I would recommend this to fans of the band's earlier work or fans of the genre in general, or to people looking for a modern release. It's not reinventing the wheel, it's not reinventing anything, but it's not bad or boring either. It's knuckle dragging fun for knuckle dragging people.
