From the country that brought us the Gothenburg sound has spawned something brilliant, a band with such ferocity it sets them apart from the likes of 'At The Gates', 'Dark Tranquility' and 'Arch Enemy'. Jonass' voice is on fire and so stamina filled, especially in the first half of the album. The guitars are choppy and catchy but do get repetitive, it is the one reason why melodic guitars that helped to create the Gothenburg sound do have a somewhat boring watered down feel. There is no breaking of new ground here. 'Carnal Forge's' albums all do sound the same musical wise but for what they do they do better than the aforementioned bands.
The lyrics are dark and carry with them tales of murder, suicide and torture. Anything dealing with death and despair. Such lyrics when applied to rapid played death/thrash are commonplace and makes the music sound even more pissed-off. Most of the time you can understand what Jonas is saying, his voice comes through with clarity even at such high speeds of singing. Most songs average about 3 minutes which is good. It gets the point across in the music and does not become irritating just at times boring, with exception of 'A Higher Level of Pain' which is over 5 minutes and better at the end of the album than the beginning.
This album I would recommend to any fan of melodic Swedish metal. I.E. 'Arch Enemy', 'Amon Amarth', 'Dark Tranquility', 'Gardenian' and 'At The Gates'.
Standout tracks: 'Butchered, Slaughtered, Strangled, Hanged, and 'Fuel For Fire'.
