Carnal Forge - Aren't You Dead Yet?

Fn but disposable... - 70%

Snxke, October 19th, 2004

Carnal Forge rate as one of the more enjoyable Century Media bands cranking out less-than-memorable releases today. The new "Aren't You Dead Yet?" is a stew-pot of well-produced hyper-thrash that cuts through the senses with little thought put into musical longevity. The Carnal boys are another junk-food-thrash-fest designed to grind you down, beat you up and leave you feeling a bit sore. While this is hardly a deeper art form, the shiny mix and momentary burst of energy will make things pleasing as possible in the short-term.

The big problem with a CD (despite it's strong production values and musicianship) like this is that while nothing is bad, nothing stands out next to the other either. Unlike the mid-80's Slayer CD's in which three or four songs rate as metal classics, Carnal Forge has one big morass of momentarily engaging hyper-thrash.

This band won't change the world, they won't even change the moment...but this record was fun while it lasted.

I can't say buy it, I can't tell you not to.

Meh...
