Cannon - Thunder and Lightning

Poppy, catchy 80s metal - 90%

Zack2981, June 26th, 2008

To give a quick comparison of this band, I'd say they're something of a mix between Kix and Def Leppard. I get a Joe Elliot feeling from the singer. As for the music, if you are into any metal that ever tried to rock and still get played on the radio, this might be for you.

I really dig this album. It's full on 80s pop metal with a kick. I can see hard core metal fans maybe not being into it, but I like to chuckle along with my metal sometimes and this is a good band to chuckle with. That's not to say that it's just bubblegum metal. Yes, the choruses from many songs (Evil Shadow and Heaven's On Fools Side in particular) will be stuck in your head but the songs are all very well done. Sweet solos, good production, and whether or not Cannon themselves are in on the joke, they still put together an album worth checking out.
