Cannibal Corpse - Global Evisceration

Another Great CC DVD - 85%

beardovdoom, May 23rd, 2014

Cannibal Corpse are one of the best bands ever. Kings of death metal, relentless touring machine, consistent album makers and awesome dudes...all of this is captured on this DVD.

Their last DVD 'Centuries of Torment' was a career retrospective packed to the gills with 7 hours of shows, interviews, crazy antics and other features-about 7 hours worth on 3 discs! 'Global Evisceration' is a more simplistic 1 disc set, but still packed with features. The bulk of this is about an hour of live footage which can be watched as a separate show or played as part of a show/documentary medley. Normally I hate music DVDs where the songs are constantly interrupted by interviews, but this works the other way. It's essentially a documentary with songs thrown in, recorded at 2 separate shows. I like this structure as I feel you get an insight into the band on tour while still getting your fix of death metal. Very good setup to compliment the top quality musical performances and interesting documentary.

The thing I like about Cannibal Corpse is how down to earth they are, as well as humourous and surprisingly normal! This DVD shows them happily hanging out with fans in a small town they just happened to stop in, visiting Malta for the first time, trying to navigate the Russian subway system and the various antics and bodily functions of the band (especially George, who apparently has really soft hands!). Th band are candid in interviews, expressing a love of touring despite missing out on normal family time and other activities, the joys of sightseeing and exploring new places and also a show of respect to all the bands they share a stage with.

The songs on this DVD are a great selection, mixing obvious choices (Hammer Smashed Face, A Skull Full of Maggots) with deeper cuts from their discography ( The Cryptic Stench, Disfigured etc) all delivered in their usual uncompromising, crushing style.

Overall, we get a very good selection of Cannibal Corpse songs, an excellent documentary and about 40 minutes of extras. Great value for money.
