Finnish death metal brutes Cadaveric Incubator are back with their 2nd full length album.
Noisy sampling brings the album into life with a disturbing touch before crunchy bass and thunderous guitars roar alongside some brutal vocals atop an unrelenting stream of blastbeats, Cadaveric Incubator are certainly not a band whom waste time getting to the good stuff. The cacophony of deathly ferocity lurches from powerfully biting faster onslaughts to pungent, grave-crawling grooves that immediately invoke the energies of Autopsy and Carcass in their meaty swinging tunes. Whammy dive-bombs suitably take up the solo sections and we see a full picture of pure grinding old school death metal carnage. There is some interestingly speed metal influences moments in the opening track that hopefully will linger through the record as they add an interesting flavour to the otherwise primitive storm of barbarity. Picking up the pace, things get even more insane on tracks like “Blood Lust” and “Necropolis” with more grindcore tinged hellfire throwing us through an abyssal realm of blasts, d-beats and monstrous riffing accompanied by gut-wrenching growls of pure malevolence. The opening moments of this record leave a strong impact that hopefully will be retained and not fizzle out in a pool of sputum.
Betwixt total mayhem and violence we are treated to plentiful moments of nastily savage yet catchy grooves that rip the body apart before another stampede liquifies the putrified remains, this is definitely some rancidity of epic proportions from this Finnish trio. In the middle sections of the album we see a bit more dynamics and growth in the shape of almost doomy riffs, definitely harnessing that Autopsy feel I mentioned earlier. Aside from this we stay in the midst of punchy hooks and relentless insanity that jumps back and forth in a way that just screams with old school filth. “Sarcophagidae” is a perfect example of slower moments, faster moments and mid-tempo crawls all packed into a disgustingly delightful slab of rotten death metal horrors. Certainly a stand-out moment on the record for me. Putrefaction remains the name of the game. Right ’til the end we see no remorse or softening from these brutes, just sheer hard-headed assaults of the brain with a blunt force trauma that nobody could withstand. In under half an hour, you will be pulverised and mauled by this killer slab of grimy, oozing grot.
A crushing cut of pure old school death metal excellence from Cadaveric Incubator. What it lacks in innovation, it makes up for with pure revolting worship of the heyday of brutality. If you seek technical flourishes or progressive nuance, here is not where you will find it. If, on the other hand, you are searching for a zombifying feast of depravity and sonic heaviness, then blast this record at high volumes as you are petrified but its malignant grotesqueries.
