CJSS - World Gone Mad

Another solid traditional metal album - 80%

RequiredFields, October 2nd, 2007

CJSS released two albums in the same year (1986), World Gone Mad and Praise the Loud. Of those two albums, this one is the superior.

"Hell on Earth" begins things off with a drum intro, and a shred solo. The riff work here is strongly influenced by Judas Priest, and the vocals are fairly typical traditional 80s metal vocals. The band doesn't bring much new to the table, but they are a good band, with lots of talent. "No Man's Land" starts off with a very nice guitar intro, and the rest of the song is also very good. "Communication Breakdown" is a Led Zeppelin cover. "World Gone Mad" is one of the highlights here, with even more great solo work from David Chastain.

"Run to Another Day" is the obligatory ballad of the album. After slowing down there for a bit, we get the speed metal of "The Gates of Eternity". "Destiny" is more melodic, and "Welcome to Damnation" is also very nice.

The album closes with the best song here, "Purgatory/Living in Exile". An excellent intro, and even more top notch guitar solos from Chastain. A great finish to a consistent and memorable traditional metal album.
